Piper’s world is dying.

Each day brings hotter temperatures and heat bubbles that threaten to destroy the earth. Amid this global heating crisis, Piper lives under the oppressive rule of her mother, who suffocates her even more than the weather does. Everything changes on her eighteenth birthday, when her mother is called away on a mysterious errand and Piper seizes her first opportunity for freedom.

Piper discovers a universe she never knew existed—a sphere of gods and monsters—and realizes that her world is not the only one in crisis. While gods battle for control of the Underworld, Piper’s life spirals out of control as she struggles to find the answer to the secret that has been kept from her since birth.

An imaginative melding of mythology and dystopia, Solstice is the first YA novel by talented newcomer P. J. Hoover.

  1. Ugh, I hate dystopias but I do like mythology and books that have to do with the Underworld.

BTW-I read your review of Crush on Goodreads and I think I’ll be skipping on that one. It drives me batshit crazy when girls get all paranoid over guys wanting to spend money on them. Especially if they are planning on getting married. I’m all for independence but not when it draws the line at stupidity…*sigh* I still want to read it though…but then I don’t. #conflicted

    1. Yeah I TOTALLY agree. I mean.. geeze.

Other than the two things I mentioned though, the book was awesome. And she was only annoyingly anal about money for like… 1/3rd of the book. I don’t know. I totally get if you don’t want to read it since that was so freaking annoying. But other than that (and the “put on a sweatshirt” thing) it was an awesome book with a great ending.
