2018 releases I’ve pre-ordered

Is it just me or is 2018 looking to be an AWESOME year of releases? I’ve already read several 2018 releases and loved them, and there are so many more yet to come!

The first two in this list have already been released but I’m including them anyway because they only just came out and they were still pre-orders!

Tempests and Slaughter by Tamora Pierce

Tempests and Slaughter by Tamora Pierce

Released: 6th February

Arram. Varice. Ozorne. In the first book in the Numair Chronicles, three student mages are bound by fate . . . fated for trouble.

Arram Draper is a boy on the path to becoming one of the realm’s most powerful mages. The youngest student in his class at the Imperial University of Carthak, he has a Gift with unlimited potential for greatness–and for attracting danger. At his side are his two best friends: Varice, a clever girl with an often-overlooked talent, and Ozorne, the “leftover prince” with secret ambitions. Together, these three friends forge a bond that will one day shape kingdoms. And as Ozorne gets closer to the throne and Varice gets closer to Arram’s heart, Arram begins to realize that one day soon he will have to decide where his loyalties truly lie.

In the Numair Chronicles, readers will be rewarded with the never-before-told story of how Numair Salmalín came to Tortall. Newcomers will discover an unforgettable fantasy adventure where a kingdom’s future rests on the shoulders of a talented young man with a knack for making vicious enemies.

I don’t actually think I’ve read anything by Tamora Pierce before, but Tempests and Slaughter sounds very cool! My favourite kind of book involves magic and kingdoms. But honestly, I was first drawn in by the cover. I think it’s gorgeous. ♥

  1. Those all sound like such great picks! This is very dangerous for my wallet. So far, I’ve only preordered City of Bastards by Andrew Shvarts (it’s the sequel to Royal Bastards) and The Darkest Legacy by Alexandra Bracken (a spin-off of The Darkest Minds). I don’t usually like buying books before I read them – I have far too many regrets but I’ll probably end up preordering more simply because I’m a sucker for preorder initiatives.

    1. Ohh City of Bastards! I really enjoyed Royal Bastards. I might have to consider pre-ordering that as well!

You’re right that pre-ordering books is always a bit risky. That’s one of the reasons I feel so fortunate when I can get an ARC first. I can read the book first, then if I really love it I know it’s worth buying my own copy. So far I’ve had EXCELLENT luck with all the 2018 releases I’ve read! (knock on wood)

  2. 2018 is such an exciting year for books. I’ve had Obsidio on my preorder list for FOREVER, and I am counting down the days until it comes out.
I haven’t read any of the DC books yet, but they are on my list. I hope I can get to them soon.
Before I read this post, I hadn’t heard of the Tempests and Slaughter, but the synopsis sounds so interesting. I think I’m going to have to do some looking into it. 🙂

    1. I hope you like Tempests and Slaughter if you decide to read it! 😀

I’m wondering if I should reread Illuminae and Gemina before Obsidio comes out! Are you going to do that or just jump straight into Obsidio?
