My Book Blogging Goals & Resolutions for 2014

My Book Blogging Goals & Resolutions for 2014

My Book Blogging Goals

These are specific and often number-based goals that relate to your blog. They are milestones you want to hit or specific things you want to achieve.

I will try to get back to doing one Bitchin’ Book Blog post per week

I feel like I haven’t been publishing as many BB posts in the last few weeks. At least part of it is that I’ve run out of topics. I don’t know what kind of advice to give and I’m really relying on reader-submitted questions to answer, but those have been coming in less often.

I just really want to bring this baby back and keep posting full force!

I’d like to see Nose Graze hit 40,000 page views per month

I hit 30,000 page views in a month a while back and have been staying in that range pretty consistently. That felt like a HUGE milestone and I’m hoping I can somehow push that to 40k in 2014!

Never have more than 10 unread ARCs at once

I kind of threw the number “10” out there randomly. But, I think I’ve been keeping up with that the last few weeks. Ultimately the number 10 isn’t important to me; I’m mostly concerned about the idea of not overwhelming myself. I don’t want to drown in ARCs. I want to keep it to a manageable amount and not take on too many that it stresses me out. I’ve been doing really well with that the last few months and I want to keep it up!

My Resolutions

These are resolutions related to book blogging. They’re things you want to change or improve upon, or things you’ve been putting off and finally want to get done. They don’t have to be number-based and can be a bit more vague. They also don’t have to relate specifically to your blog, but they should somehow relate to book blogging or the blogosphere.

I will comment on more peoples’ blogs

I’ve been SUCKING at this lately! A huge part of it is that I’m just so busy. I have reading, blogging on Nose Graze, working on bookblogging.net, doing school work, and I still want some free time! But seriously, I feel awful. Nose Graze gets a lot of great comments and I feel like I’m not paying it forward.. I want to comment a lot more, especially on the blogs that often comment on mine.

I will find new blogs to follow and subscribe to them

I feel like I’m in a bit of a blog reading rut. I follow maybe 5-8 blogs religiously (meaning I subscribe to them by email). I read those every time there’s a new post. But, that’s it. I’m never finding any new blogs that I absolutely adore and must read religiously. I want to find more! So in 2014 I’m hoping I’ll be able to expand my horizons a bit.

I will publish more “real life” posts

I’ve only done a few so far but they’ve gone over really well! Plus I’ve decided that they’re loads of fun to write. I can’t wait to start coming up with new real life topics to post about.

I will be more active on Twitter

Twitter. Bleh. It’s not that I dislike it, it’s just that I suck at being social on it. I’m not sure what my problem is. Maybe it’s because I’m not social in real life and thus I’m not super social on Twitter either. But whatever it is, I think it needs to change!

I will post more bookish photos (if not on my blog then on Twitter/Facebook)

I ADORE photography! It’s always been one of my hobbies and I’d love to somehow combine that with my love for books.

Maybe I’ll start using Pinterest

Everyone is like “Pinterest this” “Pinterest that” and I never jumped on the bandwagon. I think 2014 will be the year I finally do it! Especially if I can whip out those bookish photos I was talking about.

I will clean out my Feedly subscriptions

I doubt that this will actually happen, but here’s hoping! I have a ton of Feedly subscriptions, but probably only about 10% of those actually interest me. It would be awesome if I could weed out the ones I ALWAYS skip over.

Now it’s your turn!

  1. Blogging resolutions? That’s a GOOD idea. I should make some… πŸ˜‰ I’ve been working hard on commenting/following more blogs this year, but I want to keep that up, too. I don’t get tons of ARCs, but I want my library TBR not to resemble the Eiffel Tower. That would be awesome.

  2. That’s a good list of bloggish resolutions. Maybe I should think of some. I like that you’ve listed things that will be new to you (like Pinterest, which I’m still not sure about either) and things that you want to increase/improve upon that are already great on your blog (like BBB). My favorite is your line item to not have more than 10 arcs at a time. Sheesh, that needs to be my #1 – get through Netgalley pile now! lol

  3. I need to sit down and think about where my blog’s going over the next year (my 4th!). Do I want to grow larger or stay at the size I am? Do I want to review more? Keep my ARC # low (as you know, that’s harder than it seems!)? You’ve got some great resolutions and have got me thinking. πŸ™‚ Happy New Year!

  4. That is a lot of resolutions..lol. I have a few I was also thinking of doing a post about it but haven’t. I know a couple of the things I need to work on is being more organized with my books, making a list of books read so I can keep up with sequels and not being so click happy on Netgalley and Edelweiss and catching up with those I have clicked. πŸ™‚

  5. I also need to work on ARCs and not getting so many. Seriously. I need to have some self-control when I’m on Edelweiss and auto-approved for certain publishers. It’s so hard not to click download! I definitely need to not feel so overwhelmed especially since I will be starting a new job in 2014 and will not have as much time to read/blog.

  6. If you like photography, perhaps you should take a look at Instagram? πŸ™‚ Very fun and easy way to share pictures with your followers! Twitter really grew on me. I wasn’t such a fan of it in the beginning, but I’m getting the hang of it (and I’m not a very social person in real life either) Yes, keep those real life posts coming! I love seeing more of bloggers and really getting to know them.

  7. I think I do pretty well on commenting but this is still something I’d like to improve on, too. I’d also like to discover some new blogs next year as I love finding new favourites to follow. As for Twitter, I hope you start to like it more soon! I wasn’t a big fan when I first joined, but it’s now my favourite social media for blogging and it’s great with connecting with other bloggers and especially authors. I’m not a super social person IRL either but I find I don’t have a problem interacting on Twitter. Good luck with your blogging goals and resolutions!

  8. I really like all of your resolutions! I hope you can get up to 40,000 page views per month, too, because that definitely is such a fantastic milestone, and so is 30,000! I definitely agree with you about commenting on more blogs. I feel like some days I’m really gun-ho about getting to everybody’s blog and going on a comment spamming spree, but other days I’m just not feeling it and slack off for a week and then I have to play catch-up. And YES to subscribing to new blogs! I always forget to subscribe to my favorite blogs, and I need to really make that a normal thing.

Have a great holiday and hopefully you’ll meet all of your goals and resolutions for 2014 <33

  9. Well, I wish I could have an excuse to be busy. But nope, it’s just school and being part of the Procrastination Nation. And wow, I wish I could even hit 1K of hits per month, but I guess that’s not happening any time soon. Like, honestly, Ashley, you’re already somewhere there in the “blogging god” status.

  10. I’m still pondering my resolutions, but I like your list. Good luck on keeping them!

Do you have an idea as to how you’ll use Pinterest? I’m not really sure how it’s helpful for book blogs… I can see the uses for retail/inspiration, that sort of thing…

And having subs to blogs I don’t read is a big reason I STILL haven’t set up Feedly. I meant to weed those out before Google Reader bit the dust, never got to it, and I don’t want to import and sort again, so I’m starting over with Feedly.

    1. I have some ideas of how I *could* use Pinterest, but I’m not sure if I’d have the time to actually do them. The reason why I never used it up until now is because I feel like the most book bloggers can do is pin a book cover, but that’s boring…

My ideas involve combining books with my passion for photography, like re-creating book covers in my own style. But I have no idea if I’ll have the time to actually do that. πŸ˜› It sounds fun though!

  11. Oooh, cleaning out my feedly subscriptions would be a really smart thing to do. I should do that too. I found a few that I subscribed to that were duplicates for whatever reason, and then others that hadn’t updated since 2011. I think I need to go through and delete dead blogs and ones I lost interest in. I love using the reader, but there is a bunch there that I just stopped caring about or that I think I followed for a contest on GFC a while back and never got really interested in (mostly because they review books I don’t give a flip about).
