Who Knew Insta-Love Could be so Hot?

Poster for The 100
This post talks about some vague plot developments in (primarily) season 1 of The 100, the TV show. I don’t reveal any big ending/final episode spoilers though!

It’s no secret that I’m not a fan of insta-love. It’s not realistic and it annoys me whenever I see it pop up in books. So who thought that I’d be such a HUGE advocate of one particular insta-love relationship?

Lincoln & Octavia in The 100

The 100: Lincoln carrying Octavia through the woods

This is insta-love at its finest. Octavia and Lincoln meet and immediately have this incredibly strong connection. Practically 24 hours later they’re kissing, talking about running away together, and constantly put themselves on the line for each other.

Looking at their relationship objectively, it’s total insta-love and I should be rolling my eyes.

But I’m not.

BECAUSE IT’S SO DELICIOUS!!!!

What makes this insta-love okay?

  • Is it because this is a TV show and not a book?
  • Is it because I can SEE the characters?
  • Is it because Lincoln is so mysterious and dangerous?
  • Is it because Lincoln seems to have turned Octavia into a selfless person? (she was kind of a bitch at the beginning)

What is the appeal here? They barely even speak! Lincoln just stands there looking like a total badass, not saying anything and thus adding to his mysterious bad boy appeal. Then Octavia gets drawn into that and starts falling for him. They still don’t really speak much. Lincoln is clearly ready to sacrifice himself for Octavia if necessary… AND I LOVE IT!!!

I am so freaking obsessed with this relationship. It has quickly become my favourite part of The 100. I feel like I’m defying logic and breaking my own “rules” regarding insta-love, but I don’t care. There’s something about their incredible chemistry that has me rooting for them 100%.

I WANT THEM TO RUN AWAY TOGETHER AND HAVE GROUNDER BABIES!!

Have you watched The 100?

What do you think about Lincoln and Octavia?

  1. I’ve not seen this series, nor do I know much about it besides the title. πŸ™‚ I do think for myself that insta-luv works better on TV than in books and I think it’s because we can see them. πŸ™‚ I might just have to check this series out..is it on Netflix?

    1. Yes, it’s on Netflix! Binge the crap out of that show! Netflix usually posts new episodes the day after they’d air on TV.

    2. You should totally watch it! It’s FANTASTIC!

You have to watch at least two or three episodes though. The pilot isn’t great, but I promise it gets REALLY REALLY good. Everyone gets hooked after about 3 episodes.

  2. Lincoln is HOT that’s why. I’m not a huge fan of insta-love either but honestly, who can’t love a badass like Lincoln, and then there’s Octavia’s innocence/naivety that makes her more susceptible to having daddy issues and falling for “the wrong” guy… which is obviously not the case, she snags herself an hot tamale. Honestly… the things I would do to that man lol

        1. I know!!!
I’m TERRIFIED for Lincoln! I hope he gets “fixed” or whatever. πŸ™ I want him and Olivia to live happily ever after together!
3. OHMAGAWD YAAS I COULDN’T AGREE MORE. I didn’t really like them at first and found myself rolling my eyes at their ridiculous insta love relationship but the more I saw them the more I found myself shipping it! May have something to do with Lincoln’s amazing abs …..

    1. YOU NEED TO SEE IT!!!!

And although this is my favourite part of the show, there’s so much more to it. The rest of the plot is super intense and exciting. You’re going to love it!

Make sure you watch at least three episodes before judging though. The pilot isn’t great, but I promise it gets a lot better. I think people start to get hooked after about three episodes.

  4. Normally,I absolutely loathe insta love in any way, shape, or form. BUT, I have no problem whatsoever with Lincoln and Octavia’s relationship. Like you said, Lincoln has that whole mysterious bad boy vibe going, so I can’t say that I wouldn’t have done the same thing she did πŸ˜‰

I also agree that he seems to have made her a better person as she seems to actually care about others besides her and Bellamy now.

    1. Riiiight!!! It defies all logic, but it’s amazing.

I love Octavia’s character development. In the first few episodes, I pretty much swore to hate her for all eternity. She was selfish, bitchy, and snobby. Then it’s like she got the sense knocked into her. Now she’s daring, selfless, and brave.

    1. You should totally start watching it!!! It’s an amazing show, and not just because of this epic romance.

You have to watch beyond the first episode though. The pilot is kind of meh, but after a while it gets REALLY REALLY good!!

    1. Yeah I LOOOVE Octavia’s character development! She’s changed so much and she’s probably my favourite character now.

  5. I just watched the first season of The 100 in like two days on Netflix and OMG it’s so good!
I need to start season 2. I might be crazy but I like Bellamy and Clarke together. I like Finn but I love how Clarke and Bellamy always challenge each other. It could change as I catch up on season 2…
Anyway, I can totally get on board with instalove in tv shows and movies, I think a huge part is because I can SEE it. When I’m reading about instalove in books, I feel like the authors are trying to force me to feel the connection.
Lincoln is a badass! And I agree, I like Octavia so much better since he came along πŸ™‚

    1. Hahaha me too!! I literally went from having never seen it to being completely caught up in just a few days. Of course, now I’m all upset and deprived since I have to wait for each episode. *grumble*

I honestly don’t even like Finn at all. I was never that into him, but then season 2 made me REALLY not like him (just wait!!!). But there’s definitely something there with Bellamy and Clarke, so I agree with you!

        1. Yes! I’m 100% on board! It took me a while to warm up to the idea, but I never liked
Finn. I agree, his hair really didn’t help things. It’s fuuuugly. But even from the beginning I just didn’t like his personality much.
1. Yeah that’s a good point. It’s harder to be okay with it in a book, when you can’t feel/see the chemistry as well.

You should definitely watch The 100! Don’t judge it by the first episode though, it’s not that good. But you’ll get really hooked after like 3 episodes. It just gets better and better! πŸ˜‰

  6. Just startes marathoning this show and just met him; I ship it already. I get why so many people hate insta-love, but insta-love is a thing that happens in high school. Most relationships don’t last more than three months and in that time they think they love each other. It is completely irrational and crazy, but it happens.

  7. The Lincoln/Octavia storyline is what got me hooked on this show as well. I honestly didn’t think about it being insta-love because I was 100% shipping it immediately! Ha! I wonder if one of the reasons it works is because of the “forbidden” element of the relationship. Like Romeo and Juliet, part of the attraction is that they’re not ALLOWED to have a connection. I know that for me, certainly, that heightened the hotness of the whole thing. That and Lincoln looking super badass as he silently withstood torture while staring longingly at Octavia. I agree that her character is much improved now as well. Sigh. I love the show as a whole, but their storyline is definitely my favorite. πŸ™‚

    1. I LOOOVE the forbidden element! I’m such a sucker for those kinds of relationships.

Oh gosh, that scene was so badass. I was literally drooling over Lincoln as he just sat there and wordlessly accepted the torture like it was nothing. Then he still had the energy to gaze longingly at Octavia all like, “Hey, how you doin’?”

  8. I haven’t watched the series and passed my copy of the book on without reading so I’m just speaking from that picture but holy crap he looks hot and they look SO freaking intense! I think it’s better if you can see it. There are subtle glances and other things you just can’t feel from a book.

And now I want to watch the show lol

    1. Their relationship is AMAZING! You should totally watch the show!

I’ve heard the book isn’t that great but the show is amazing. To be honest, the pilot isn’t very good, but the show just gets better and better with each episode.

  9. My BF and I just recently did a 100 watching Marathon on Netflix and thankfully it’s also on Hulu, so we’re now on the current season (2). I just love Octavia and Lincoln – but I didn’t think of it as insta love until just now. Maybe because he saved her and they formed this rescued-rescuer bond? Idk, but I’m with you, I love it. How far are you?

    1. I think it is insta-love just because of that immediate connection and how they only knew each other for like two days… But it’s really GOOD insta-love! LOL.

I’m all caught up, sadly. That’s S02E06, I believe. That means I have withdrawals every week until I get the next episode lol.

        1. I think I’d just be worried that you wouldn’t like the book and it would put you off the TV show. I guess as long as you constantly remind yourself that THE SHOW IS AMAZING then maybe that won’t be a problem. πŸ˜›
