Book Blogging New Year's Resolutions

Become More Social

Being social is something I really struggle with, both online and in person. I’m great at chatting when someone initiates conversation, but I suck at pushing myself out there and getting involved in Twitter or the general blogging world. I try, I really do.. But then I see other people just completely excelling at it and I can’t help but think, “Why can’t I be more like that??” So starting now, I’m revving things up, and pushing my social activity to a whole new level!

Comment on More Blogs

I suppose this falls under “Become More Social”, but whatever. Right now I am usually pretty good at commenting whenever I have something to say, but I really want to find more blogs to read and comment on! And I’m making it a clear goal to always comment on everything I read. Okay, that probably won’t happen, but I’m going to try my very best!

Clean up my RSS Reader

I’m actually afraid to check out my RSS reader because it’s a mess. I’m going to clean it up, stick to the blogs I read and like, and use that to help fulfill my “comment” resolution!

Utilize Google Calendar

I have actually started doing this already! When HarperTeen exploded on Edelweiss, I found myself really, REALLY overwhelmed with review copies. I just didn’t know where to begin. So I plotted all my books onto Google Calendar, sorted them by release date, and worked from there. Then I had a pretty good idea of what to read first and when I had to read which books by. It doesn’t mean I’ll always go in order, but it helps a lot!

Read These Books…

This is just a small, select list of the books that have been sitting on my shelf for a while!

Do More Custom WordPress Work

I have done some custom WordPress work for a few blogs already, but I plan to more officially announce my services in a few weeks!

What are your blogging resolutions?

    1. OMG HANNAH!!!! I think your Mark of Athena review was one of the first I ever read on your blog!!! I FREAKING LOVED IT!! I need to read this book ASAP.. ideally before I go back to the UK because it’s ginormous!!!

      ♥ ♥

  1. I’m not setting any “real” resolutions yet, since I’m so new to this, those are all things I’m working on anyway, haha!

I never thought of using Google Calendar for scheduling my book reading time…right now I’m using a spreadsheet of books I’ve received, with calculations for +/- 2 weeks of the release date and 8 weeks from receiving my copy. But that might work out better…maybe I’ll have to do a combination of both. The math geek in me likes the spreadsheet, haha! 😉

Also, I’m glad to hear that you’re officially putting yourself out there for blog work…I am hoping to hire you soon actually (before reading that) to do some widget work that I just can’t seem to get right. 🙂

    1. Haha yay for math geeks! 😀 If that works for you then AWESOME! I kind of wish I could do that just because it sounds cool lol!

Let me know if/when you want to talk about that widget work. 🙂 Feel free to send me an e-mail whenever!

      Happy New Year!!

  2. We share some similar resolutions – I’ll also be pledging to be more social and comment on more blogs in a couple days! I should really look into Google Calendar too…for now, I just have a sticky saved on my desktop with my review copies listed in order of release date.

I can’t wait to see what you come up with for your custom WP work!

    1. I think Google calendar is nice because it’s laid out by a calendar so it’s a little easier to make sense of things visually. 🙂

    1. Haha nerdy is cool! 😉 Thanks so much Christina! Good luck to you with the commenting! I hope we both succeed LOL!

    1. Thanks Pushy! 😀 Hopefully we can both clean up our feeds this year! *fingers crossed*

  3. I’m really bad about the commenting thing too. And the RSS feed thing. So much there I’m not interested in anymore. >_> Those goals totally make sense. But I think it’s the coolest thing ever that you’re gonna do custom WordPress work. I could definitely use some help. I love how your blog is so simple yet so interesting and user-friendly and versatile. I majorly fail at emulating that style and I think I’ve just altogether given up haha. Plus your layouts are always really cute haha. Anyway!

I think you’re plenty social (net wise). But maybe that’s just compared to me.

Great resolutions. I think you’ll do great with them. Happy ’13!
