Food to Make Your Mouth Water (…and books!)

New Books

I’m really excited for Breathe, Annie, Breathe because I sooo want to love running. I don’t hate it, but I don’t feel like I really love it. I’d love to love it though, you know? So I think Breathe, Annie, Breathe has a pretty cool synopsis and sounds like a total “me” book!

Going Low Carb!

My husband and I have decided to try eating low carb for a while. We’re not that far into it, but here are a few things we’ve been making so far:

All the eggs!

Scrambled eggs with bacon, peppers, and green onion
Scrambled eggs with bacon, red pepper, and green onion

We’ve had these scrambled eggs twice so far and they’re AMAZING! I used to always be super picky with my scrambled eggs and have them 100% plain, or add ham. But I’m starting to become a bit more adventurous. They’re super delicious with peppers, green onion, and bacon.

Mozzarella Meatballs

Oh my gosh, I’m totally making these again! I followed a method from I Breathe… I’m Hungry. Sadly I didn’t make the actual meatballs since we already had some premade ones in the freezer we wanted to use. But I’d never made them that particular way before with the mozzarella on top. They were delish! I can’t wait to do them again, and maybe I’ll actually make the meatballs next time.

Low Carb Tacos

Low carb tacos

Tacos without the shell! I put mince, seasoning, peppers, cheese, and a bit of salsa inside the lettuce. Then I could still pick it up and eat it like a taco!

Behind the Screen

I made an appearance over on Gypsy Reviews doing a Behind the Screen interview. If you want to learn more about my design process, check it out. πŸ™‚ It’s kind of funny because I actually answered the questions several months ago and I’d forgotten EVERYTHING I said. So I enjoyed rereading my answers.

LitRate

Sadly, the LitRate campaign didn’t make it. πŸ™ We came out at just over $7,000, which is AMAZING, but not enough for our project. πŸ™

A lot of people have been asking me if I’ll pursue the idea anyway, and the answer is no. As much as I would LOVE to see LitRate happen (and heck, I really want to use it myself!!), I just can’t see it succeeding if we don’t have a good source of book data. What’s the point of a new site if you have to constantly check Goodreads for more accurate/complete book data anyway?

    1. You should totally try it! And they were AMAZING! I wish I made double, hahaha.

Yeah I’m upset that LitRate didn’t make it. We are allowed to launch it again if we want, but I’m not sure if/when we will. I almost feel like we need to wait for Goodreads to majorly screw up again, you know? That would give more people incentive to back a new site lol.

    1. Yeah I can’t do low calorie at all lol. I start getting really cranky and crave all the things. I thought low carb would be hard, but it’s not so bad. You’re allowed a ton of fat (since your body starts burning fat instead of carbs), which is both yummy and makes you full so you tend to stay under your calorie limit anyway.

  1. Food looks great! Maybe I should check out that site for the meatballs..mmm. I am really sad about LitRate because I was so looking forward to it..maybe you could try again in the future?? πŸ™‚ Enjoy your weekend!

    1. You totally should! The meatballs were fabulous. πŸ™‚

I’m sad about LitRate too. πŸ™ Maybe we will try again, but I don’t know. As I said in reply to another person, I almost feel like we need to wait for Goodreads to have another major screw up. That will motivate people to back a new site! LOL

  2. I could definitely see you enjoying Breathe, Annie, Breathe because of the running aspect. I’m not at all a runner, but my husband ran a marathon and I saw how grueling the training can be. I don’t think I could do what Annie does!

Sorry LitRate didn’t happen. I know it’s disappointing when you work hard on something and it doesn’t pan out. Maybe sometime in the future things will fall into place differently.

    1. I’m almost done now and I completely LOVE it!!! My sister ran a marathon too. It’s pretty insane. I honestly don’t think it sounds like that much fun lol. I mean, I’d love to be a runner, but maybe “cap out” at a half marathon. Just reading this book and seeing how often Annie throws up, hurts herself, is in tons of pain, etc. makes me wonder, “How is this fun???” I’d love to run, but not push it so much that I start to feel horrible, you know?

And yeah, it’s really disappointing. πŸ™ Maybe we’ll be able to make it work in the future or one of the free services will adjust their terms so we can use them (like Amazon).

      1. Yes, the marathon took so much out of my husband’s body – some really crazy things! This year, he decided to stick to a half-marathon. I am in awe of anyone who can run at all – I guess Annie had some pretty serious motivation, but still … knowing me I’d just mope in depression instead of killing myself with marathon training. πŸ™‚

  3. Congrats on going low-carb! I did it for the longest while and it was so weird how much energy I had. I could go to bed at midnight and wake-up completely at 7am feeling refreshed. The only negative was it was a LOT harder for me to exercise. I could hardly run without feeling like I was breathing in needles! Low-carb is rough during the holidays with all the family + bready/sugary foods, but if you can make it past that you’re a CHAMP!! Good luck!

  4. Breathe, Annie, Breathe sounds like such an interesting book. I can relate with you! I’d love to love running, but, um, not quite there yet… I’ve known several runners though, it’s amazing.

Those mozzarella meatballs and low carb tacos sound amazing! I had taco salad before without the tortilla part and just ate that on lettuce. I never thought of using the lettuce to act as a taco shell, but knowing of lettuce wraps, it now makes perfect sense.

Aw, I’m sorry the funds weren’t all raised for LitRate. πŸ™ That’s really too bad. It sounded like a good idea.

  5. OMG That meatballs seems delicious, I totally will try them! Sorry for LitRare. I was looking for it!! I always think that things happend for a reason, maybe this wasn’t the time for the site. But don’t give up, I’m sure the future will be brighter and successful for you!

  6. I could totally cry that LitRate didn’t make it. However, I think for an amount that large, it would’ve been better to raise money longer — a lot longer. I think we could’ve totally made with half a years time. All the new bloggers who start, all the people who would’ve loved to give more as soon as the next paycheck came in… Shame =( I do hope you guys will try again soon!!

    1. I don’t know, probably not for at least a while. πŸ™ I feel like there’s no point in trying again right away. We just have to wait for more of a demand for the site (maybe if/when Goodreads screws up again).
