Life of a Blogger: Non-Bookish Hobbies

Life of a Blogger: Non-Bookish Hobbies

Today I’m going to tell you about some of my hobbies outside of reading and blogging. πŸ™‚

Movies & TV

My fiancé and I loooove watching things together! We watch a movie pretty much every night. It’s like our routine: dinner and a movie. They just go together!

I just recently finished watching all of Breaking Bad. I liked it, but to be honest, there are other TV shows I like better. So although I think it’s a good series, I don’t think I’d rate it 9.5/10 (which is currently the average rating for it). I’d give it maybe a 7.5 or 8.

But I’m OBSESSED with Prison Break! I think I’ve watched that entire series like 3 or 4 times. I just think it’s SO COOL!

Photography

I haven’t done as much photography lately as I used to, but it’s still something I adore! I’m really into macro photography, and I always wanted to get into portraits but I never have people to take pictures of X_X Who wants to model for me???

Gaming

I love gaming, but I’m honestly very VERY picky about the games I play. I tend to focus on one game, get addicted, play it for months/years, then finally move onto another.

Some of my favourites include Lord of the Rings Online, Star Wars: The Old Republic, God of War, and Darksiders.

I’m actually devastated that I’ve platinumed all of the God of War games (that’s PS3 talk for basically 100% completing a game).. now I don’t know what to do with myself! I just want MORE MORE MORE!

Coding

I Love Coding

This isn’t really a surprise, but I love coding! The best part is when I come up with a new feature I want to create, whether it’s for my blog or the Ultimate Book Blogger Plugin or something else. It’s so much fun to sit down and figure out how to make it happen. I love it!

What are some of your non-bookish hobbies?

  1. I LOVE the Mentalist. I am actually watching the whole series of Breaking Bad right now, literally right now while I am writing this. I am on episode 6. Pretty good so far.

I like watching shows, not really movies, at nights. But honestly, I haven’t had time for any other hobbies excepts for reading/blogging. I literally get 2 hours a day to do whatever I want. The rest I am working and going to school.

    1. Ohh let me know what you think of Breaking Bad as it progresses.

Sucks you only get about 2 hours a day of “free time”. πŸ™

  2. I love watching movies/series and cooking! And I also love writing, although that is bookish I think? xD I really am boring lol. I used to like gaming too. Like Sims or things like that. Sometimes racing games when I was in the mood. πŸ˜› And I still have a Nintendo DS Lite with multiple Pokemon games. My brothers were addicted to pokemon and well, I liked it too after a while. I don’t game anymore though. =)

Other than that… I just read.

    1. Haha racing games are fun! Coding God just got like… a proper steering wheel setup thing for gaming and I had a go on it over the weekend. I played a few rounds of racing games and some truck driver simulation game. XD

  3. Ahh Ashley I love your pictures and I’ll totally model for you! πŸ˜‰ But I’ve been hearing so many people in my school, the guys especially, go on and on about Breaking Bad so it’s nice to get an opinion that’s more neutral towards the series.

We all know how amazing you are at coding, though! πŸ˜€ Thanks for sharing, Ashley <33

    1. Haha, thanks! πŸ˜€

I’m actually sort of doing a mini review of Breaking Bad later in the month. I liked it, I just expected to REALLY REALLY LOVE IT after how everyone was raving about it. Dat hype..

  4. My fiance and I love watching the Big Bang Theory together for some laughs, but we don’t keep track with a whole lot of series.
Aside from that I play video games. I’m mostly an rpg girl (Final Fantasy!) on the xbox, but my friend is trying to get me to branch out to shooters lol.

    1. I’m totally an RPG girl too! My fiancé plays shooting games but I could never get into them.

  5. It’s nice to get to know you better personally. I don’t watch a whole lot of TV, but I do love Once Upon a Time and Scandal on Netflix. I love photography too and have 3 cheesy, adventurous and photogenic boys. They get tired of me taking pictures of them but I just can’t help it. I love to cook as well, feeding my family is tough but I enjoy trying new recipes, collecting cookbooks and trying to fatten up my kids with healthy food.

  6. I love Prison Break! That show is so interesting and Michael is a genius πŸ™‚ My husband and I like watching movies and shows together too, lately we’ve got ourselves in a Supernatural kick. We started watching it on Netflix (neither one of us had watched it before) a few weeks ago and we’re on season 4 now.

You’re photos are gorgeous! I love the rainbow one and the one with the ring in the book that makes a heart πŸ˜€

    1. I totally agree! Prison Break just fascinates me. I think the whole thing is such a cool idea.

  7. I always wanted to learn more about photography, I have actually thought about going back to college for photography and graphic design, but sadly I haven’t. I am a huge TV and movie buff! I love Castle, NCIS, Downton Abbey, Ripper Street (I love watching just about any British drama I can find..found some new ones online this week..The Paradise being one of them..lol.) We have a channel here called PBS and they have a lot of British Dramas on it!!! Love to play video games but not much for online gaming..I love Assassin’s Creed on my Xbox 360 and so badly want an Xbox one! πŸ™‚

  8. Photography is one of my hobbies, too πŸ™‚ Actually, I’m pretty much into anything journalism related: writing, layout design, [info]graphic design, etc.
I’m totally jealous of your macro lens… BTW, what camera do you use?
I really don’t watch a lot of TV/movies, but I watch The Big Bang Theory and Once Upon a Time when I have time.
If I’m not busy with school work, tennis tends to squeeze its way into my schedule.

    1. Very cool! I kind of wish I could design infographics.

I use a Canon 6D. πŸ™‚ Although some of the photos in the post were taken with my previous camera, a Canon XSi (450D).

  9. I used to watch Prison Break, but I watched it when it first came out. I love the two actors in it. Have never seen one episode of Breaking Bad and the only thing I know about it is that it has drugs in it. lol I must live in a hole. You’re photography pictures are amazing by the way! I like gaming too. Right now my bf and I are going through Injustice and the new Bat Man game. Thank you for sharing!!!

  10. TV is definitely one of my non-bookish hobbies. I love Downton and Sherlock. There are a few others I keep up with weekly, but more often I do marathon watching. Recently, I’ve been watching a Korean romantic comedy called To the Beautiful You, which is based on the manga Hana-Kimi that I read a good bit of a couple of years ago. I’m not sure what I would do without Netflix and Hulu Plus. I love my marathons.

  11. I don’t watch much tv, mostly just Food Network and cooking competitions like Top Chef and Cutthroat Kitchen. I play a few iPhone/iPad games; have a total Candy Crush obsession, and love hidden object games. Other than that, I dabble in beauty blogging and nail art, but reading and book blogging are definitely #1.

  12. I’m also a game addict and I love getting platinum for a game. I’m currently playing shooters with my boyfriend and like you, I always watch a movie or a TV show with him at dinner or right before we go to sleep. Those are definitely two of ‘our’ things πŸ™‚ I agree about Breaking Bad. I liked it and the ending was awesome, but I wouldn’t give it a 9.5.

  13. I am the EXACT SAME WAY about the games I play. I have a few that I just like really love and have played inside and out for years, and I rarely venture outside of them. If I do, it ends up being another game added to the collection of ones I’ll play for the next few years on end aahhha. I’m so glad I’m not the only one. I thought that made me a bad gamer haha, but I guess not. ;]

Nice photographs, by the way. I’m not that into macro, but I think I could be if I had the lens for it. Your balance of colors works really well, too–do you edit them as well?

  14. I loved the first season of Prison Break, (the map tattoo was one of my favorite TV moments ever) but then felt like they didn’t know where they were going once they got out of jail. I am really enjoying Scandal these days. And Masters of Sex. And a guilty pleasure can be found in Reign, which has improved since the first few episodes.

Outside of blogging, I enjoy running marathons. I’m going to run my 13th marathon in March — can’t wait. Had a bit of a foot injury in late fall so my training was impeded, but I’m better now. There are few things better than a runner’s high.

  15. I participated in this one a while back too! (http://angelasanxiouslife.blogspot.com/2014/01/life-of-blogger-non-bookish-hobbies.html) I love gaming. Have you bought a new ps4/xbox one yet? I love the God of War games too. I actually won the game from Geek & Sundry and they never sent it. Man that hurt I was really really really looking forward to it. Sad times there. I always see book bloggers who play games but surprisingly I never really get comments on my game reviews! Love learning new things about the bloggers I follow.

  16. I still haven’t seen Breaking Bad >.< I haven't seen any of the others, either…lately Ken & I have been on a Dexter kick! We're through the first two seasons and maybe 3 episodes into the 3rd. It's amazing!
All in all, though, I just don't watch TV. I can't keep up with series! The only way for me to watch anymore is to binge watch it seems.

I love your photography, it's beautiful!! You should try to sell them πŸ˜€

    1. Ohh I love Dexter! I’m not caught up with the latest season, but I’ve watched all the previous ones and loved them.

And thanks! I have sold a few photos, but not enough to get excited about. πŸ˜› I think it’s a lot harder to sell photos than websites! LOL

  17. Yay I freakin LOVE video games, too. What are your favorite games and consoles? Dude HANDS DOWN TO FREAKING GOOOOOOOOOOOD OFFF WARRRR DUDE OMG OMG I’M FANGIRLING. I’M SO HAPPY YOU LOVE THAT GAME! OMG. *calms down* that’s my all time favorite game along with Mario Kart Wii, Paper Mario, Resident Evil 6 (you should play this game, freaking epic), and my new favorite that I’m currently playing right now which is Dead Island. It’s so scary haha but fun to play. And WOW those pictures are amazing! I’d love to learn how to code some day. I’m planning on taking Computer Science for college so yes, I shall include coding as my day to day thing when I go to college which is this year. I also love watching movies as well especially comedy, sci-fi, and horror!

  18. Oh I can get so easily obsessed over TV shows. Right now it’s Once Upon A time! Love it so badly!:))

Oh and Gaming! I haven’t played in a very long time. But I was obsessed and heavily addicted to Word of Warcraft many years ago when it all begun…. I also played for short amount of time Lord of the Rings – which I also really loved. Now, I get easily obsessed over these games which is why I simply don’t play anymore, once I start it takes too much of my time, I can’t easily restrain myself lol

  19. Reading/Blogging is obviously my main hobby…after work and other non-fun commitments there’s not a lot of time left. Hubby and I are also TV/Movie watchers though(we DVR everything so we can skip commercials). We watch an episode or two of Jeopardy while eating dinner and then watch an hour or two of something before bed. Some of our favorites are: Castle, The Mentalist, & Person of Interest. We also like some of the woowoo stuff and watch Grimm, Sleepy Hollow & Being Human (we’re watching both UK & US on netflix) We like Sherlock and Orphan Black (BBC) too.

  20. Apart from reading, I do like writing a lot. I write different things (fan fiction, journal entries and stories), but I always find it fun! I also love to travel, and am always looking for excuses to explore new places, eat at new restaurants and experience new things.

  21. Definitely gaming for me! Nothing is quite as challenging and interactive. Sometimes the occasional TV show comes out that I have to watch. I also have been getting into coding.. there’s so many free resources out there and its such a useful hobby, especially for our generation that loves spending so much time online. Cool post πŸ™‚

  22. Oh this is a fun topic! You wouldn’t think we had more time other than to read. LOL

I paint (oil and tole) and draw with charcoal and pencils. I love guitar hero and Need For Speed on Play Station (… and PAC-MAN). I dabble in writing a very small amount. I play around with the camera here and there. I’m a tattoo junkie. Love getting them and viewing pics on instagram and pinterest. I watch a lot of TV and movies and last but not least Summer is coming so I’ll be out on my motorcycle. Oh yeah and I bake a little.

    Ashley, your photos are awesome!

  23. Although I’m not in that great of shape, I love to get outside and do something, whether it’s a short hike or just shooting some hoops I try to have fun. As for indoor things, well, I guess you could say I like to create things with my computer, very basic of course.

  24. Ooooh, you and I could definitely be friends. #lol I’m all of the above, though I tend to lean more toward sci-fi and fantasy in my television and movies, generally, and my PS3 drug of choice is anything Elder Scrolls (currently a very sad Argonian who lost her map so is searching for way shrines by walking absolutely every path in the whole freaking Oblivion map, so she can finish the Knights quest and move on to Skyrim at long-freaking-last). My husband just introduced me to Steam, and I about cried when he surprised me with Age of Empires II HD for our anniversary this week. I may or may not have stayed up until 2am playing it last night (dratted Aztecs demolished my wonder!!).

Your photography is gorgeous; I hope you’ll share more of it in the future! I love macro and artistic captures, and don’t seem to do enough of it, either. Lately, I’m finding that I really love commercial photography, and I want to pursue more of that.

    1. Awesome! πŸ˜€ It sounds like you’re quite the gamer. πŸ™‚ My husband is a huuuuge Steam user. He has tons of games!

I’d love to do (and show) more photography. I really want to buy some proper lighting equipment but I wonder if my husband will freak. πŸ˜‰ More about how much space it’ll take up than the cost, because you can get fairly cheap ones.. But they take up quite a bit of space and we have a small apartment!

  25. No doubt gaming would be the first priority over anything else that is mentioned above. Watching movies and tv series as well as coding for some work and money is good anyways. Also its good to have some fresh air once in a while.

  26. I really enjoy playing games but anytime soon i need to change this habit to something worthwhile because for my hobby i am investing lot of time but no material returns.
Hope i will get around this issue quickly.
